Reid's POV
Dakota and I laid in his bed, his head in my neck as he watched TV.
He had been helping me quite a lot. His parents were nice and I'd started staying at dinner with them. I hadn't decided if I wanted to move in yet. Though I don't think it'd be such a bad decision.
"I like being here, a lot." Dakota laughed.
"I can tell." He said, sitting up. I smiled and poked his nose before kissing his lips. He grinned at me and laid back down. "We start college in a month." He mumbled.
"Yeah... I think I'll move in then." He sat up, excitedly.
"Really?" I laughed and nodded. He hugged me tightly. "I'm so happy you decided to stay." I shrugged.
"There's no way you're surprised."
"I mean, yeah." I raised my eyebrow and pulled him down to me.
"You're incredible Dakota. There's no way I could say no to being around you more." He stared at me and pressed his lips against mine.
"You're such a beautiful man, Dakota." I told him, rubbing his back. He smiled and kissed me.
"Hmm... thank you."
I smiled, thinking about how crazy I felt about him and he looked at me, confused.
"Nothing." He shook his head at me.
~
I heard a door close downstairs and I heard Mrs. Shea.
"Boys, we're home!" I got up and put on some clothes quickly. I put on Dakota's shirt and he rolled his eyes.
"You're going to break my shirt." I laughed and shook my head.
"I'm not that much bigger than you, it'll be okay." I was hungry and they always cooked the best food.
"You're a little eager, aren't you?" Dakota asked me. I laughed and ran downstairs before him.
"Hey guys." I told them smiling widely. They laughed and then Dakota flew down the stairs and jumped on my back.
"What did you two do today?" Mrs. Shea asked, starting to take the food out. I didn't answer, my face turned red and Dakota snickered.
"Just hung out. As always." Mr. Shea turned around and looked at us knowingly.
"I came home earlier because I left my plans here." I smiled sheepishly and the two laughed at us. Dakota jumped down from my back and walked closer.
"So, guys. Reid decided that he may stay here before we go to college. Well, when we start." They both turned around, large smiles on their faces, making me feel even more welcome than they have.
"That's amazing! We're so happy you've decided to stay." Mrs. Shea yelled excitedly. I laughed from happiness.
"Yeah, so am I."
"I guess that means we should start installing that pool in the back yard." Mr. Shea said. My mouth widened and I grinned at them.
"Seriously?"
"Yeah, we've already put the funds to side for it. We knew you liked to swim, so I think it'd be a good investment." I went over and hugged the both of them.
"Thank you guys for welcoming me so warmly into your home. It means the world to me."
"Oh it's no problem honey." I turned to Dakota and he smiled happily at me. I picked him up and kissed him, but we were both smiling too hard to continue. "Are you going to help us cook again Reid?"
"Yeah, of course." I told them, excited to do so. I guess things were shit for me at first, but in a matter of time, things got so much better. I've kinda made this family in a quick span of time. I know it'll get even better as time goes.
So, we three cooked as Dakota watched. He always told me he wasn't made to be in the kitchen.
"It smells great guys." Dakota said, inhaling deeply. "I'm sooo hungry."
~
Dakota and I laid on the couch after it all, he was laid on me, starting to fall asleep.
"Go ahead." I told him. He curled up into me more and sighed. He kissed my neck and soon, drifted to sleep.
My phone was ringing, but I didn't feel like getting up to get it. I didn't expect it to be anyone important. The only person I really cared for right now was in my arms... and his parents were making their way into my life too.
I smiled and held him tighter.
"Please answer your phone or I won't sleep." I rolled my eyes and laughed.
"Okay princess." He groaned.
"Once again, even worse than cutie. Stay away from me." He stood up and I pulled him back down.
"No, don't go." I poked out my lip and he rolled his eyes.
"I have to pee, lemme go." I did as he said and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hey, Reid. How've you been?" I was surprised to hear Sadie's voice. Is it bad that with everything going on, I forgot that I was with her?
"Hey... Sadie. What's going on?"
"Uhh, we haven't talked... in a few days. And, you know, we are dating." I rubbed my face at her sarcastic vibe.
"Yeah, I know. I'm so sorry. It's been quite hectic lately.Things were going absolutely shit. But they're starting to look up."
"Great. I'm glad." She said something else, but Dakota came back and laid on me. I put my finger to my mouth and he nodded and put his head in my neck. "–and my family are going on vacation next week."
"That's nice, where is this vacation to?"
"Hawaii. I'm so excited. If we'd talked more, you could've come too. But we've gotten tickets and stuff already."
"Well, that's alright. Hey, well I'm gonna take a nap. I'll talk to you later."
"Will you actually?"
"Uh, yeah." I hung up the phone and Dakota was knocked out, just that quickly. I sighed, I really needed to break up with Sadie. I unwrapped myself from him and picked him up, bringing him to his bed. I kissed his forehead and left the room.
Hey, can I come over? I sent to Sadie.
Yeah! She replied quickly.
I drove to Sadie's and sat in the car, running my hands through my hair, back and forth. I sighed and got out, walking up the steps. The door swung open and Sadie hugged me. She pulled back and looked at me weird.
"Hey!" I smiled.
"Hey Sadie." She pulled me inside and kissed me. I pulled away and sighed. She stared at me worriedly.
"What's wrong?" I looked at her and then at my hands.
"I... I need to break up with you." Her eyes widened and tears formed in her eyes.
"What?" I nodded.
"I'm sorry. I just don't feel the same as you do. I don't love you and I don't see myself loving you." She began crying and I hugged her.
"It's okay. I'm glad you told me." She sighed and stared at me, then she raised her eyebrow. "Is there someone else? I mean, you look so much better." I smiled and shrugged.
"Ehh, I mean... yeah but you don't want to know about that." She nodded.
"You're right, I don't. Is that... Dakota's shirt?" My eyes widened. I'm so stupid! I forgot about this shirt. "No wonder you smelled like him." She laughed and then she scrunched up her eyes. "Why do you have his shirt?"
"Well, his parents let me stay with them since my dad died." She raised her eyebrow.
"That's nice of them. How do you and Dakota get along?"
"We get along fine. Well, goodbye, I'll see you around." She smiled sadly at me.
"Yeah... see ya." I left the house and went to Dakota's. She's on to us, there's no way she isn't.
I walked into Dakota's house and went upstairs. Dakota sat on his bed, rubbing his eyes.
"Hey." I told him, climbing in bed.
"Hey, where were you?" I studied him, he seemed down. But I guessed it was because he was asleep.
"I went to Sadie's." He nodded.
"She called me. Asked why I never told her about you staying with us. And she said you and her talked." I nodded.
"Yeah, we did. I told her–"
"That you loved her and was sorry for ignoring her over the past few weeks?"
"What?" I asked, taken aback.
"It's okay Reid, I'm used to it. Go ahead and be with her. We can still be friends. She's my best friend, I shouldn't be doing this with you." He wiped his tears away and pushed me out of his bed. "I need some time to myself, just for a little while."
"No, Dakota, I didn't tell her that."
"I don't care anymore. You told me not to trust anyone and to stop being so naive, and you did the same thing as Oliver." I sighed.
"She's lying, I swear." He stared at me and I hugged him. "I broke up with her." He looked up at me, surprised. His eyes glistening with tears. I wiped them and kissed him. "I guess she wanted to see if something was going on with us. I wore your shirt over there on accident." He laughed and hugged me tightly. "You can trust me Dakota. I promise."
"Okay. Then, Sadie knows about us?" I shrugged.
"I... don't even know."
