Chapter Five

The three boys had spent the night trying to figure out anything they could about Ghost.  Trying their best not to let him get depressed.  Every time Quinn caught a sad look they’d remind Ghost that they were going to figure it out soon.

No matter what they tried, Ghost still couldn’t remember enough to give them an answer.  He mostly only had feelings and even then he couldn’t be certain that those feelings were from his past.  So when morning came Sean and Quinn decided the best place to start looking for clues was the town library.

They settled down in a file room to look through past newspapers, finding nothing on the internet the previous night.  Though they had nothing to search for in the first place, so that didn’t help either.

“Ok, so when did you say you first met Ghost?”  Sean asked.

“Um, I was about ten, so almost eight years ago?”

“So we know he had to of, um….” Sean trailed off, hesitating with a look towards Ghost.

“I had to of died at least eight years ago.” Ghost sighed, “Don’t feel you have to be careful around me guys.  If we want to figure this out we have to be frank and not tip toe around the subject.”

Quinn was proud of his friend.  It was pretty obvious as Quinn grew older that Ghost was in fact a young teen.  There were things that tended to hurt his friends feeling then they would say a 16 year old.  He was pretty sensitive and to put it as nicely as possible, not very mature in some situations.  Not saying that Quinn was much better, but there was a noticeable difference at times.

“Ok,” Sean gave Ghost a reassuring smile, seeming to be just as proud, and continued, “so we should start searching the newspapers from eight years ago.  Look for anything that might seem important to a boy gone missing.  I doubt will find an exact article seen as there was nothing online, which I still find weird.  Like everything is online no-a-days.”

“Hahahaha, you just sounded like a 15 year old girl!”  Quinn couldn’t stop laughing; it wasn’t so much the words just the fact Sean was the one saying them.

“Ugh, I didn’t even think about what I was saying.  I totally did, I sounded just like a dim witted girl I know.  Only she would have added a few more ‘likes’ to the sentence.” Sean chuckled.

Once again he was struck by the fact that even though he only knew these two for a short time, he felt more comfortable with them then anyone previously.

The boys got to work, searching through every paper they could find. Their library held the papers from the top publishers as well as their own small town paper.  Needless to say, they had been search for about an hour and they only finished about a quarter of them, for the first year.

They had pulled out all of the newspapers from the first possible year Ghost went missing.  Placing them all on the scared table top, the stack looked daunting.  There were a lot more the any of them were planning on.  Who knew 52 papers could make such a larger pile?

Sean sighed, this was taking a long time.  They were going to have to come back a few more days to get through all of the papers.  He sat back, rubbing his neck to relieve some of the strain and then stretched.  He enjoyed the feeling of his sore muscles pulling as he raised his arms above his head.   His back popped, telling him he had been hunched over longer then he thought.

Quinn couldn’t help but notice they way Sean’s shirt raised up, exposing skin at his mid-drift.  His breath quickened a little as he took in the light trail of hair leading from his navel to disappear under Sean’s dark blue jeans.  Quinn was no stranger to this sort of attraction.  He has know for a few years that his interests in lie in his own gender.  However he has never really followed through with his attractions.  Quinn wasn’t exactly the most popular kid in the world.

Sean really was attractive, Quinn was surprised the other boy seemed to be just as much of a loner as himself.  He had short dirty blonde hair that Quinn itched to touch.  And those eyes of his, those blue eyes that were….looking right at him.

“What?” Sean asked as Quinn looked quickly away.

“Nothing,” he said quickly. “You find anything yet?”

“Nah, this is going to take a couple of days for sure.”

As Quinn went back to searching, Sean glances towards their friend.  “Ghost, I meant to ask you, have you always ….traveled I guess.  Or where you in the school until Quinn found you?”

“You know I never thought to ask that all these years.”  Quinn looked to Ghost, happy to have a distraction.

“Well, I mean all I can remember was the school.  Then I met Quinn and followed him around.”  Ghost grinned at us and chuckled.  “I don’t think I had ever tried to go anywhere else.  I had free rain over the school though.  I do remember checking it all out, even the basement, creepy. It gave me the willies so I never went there much.”

“Maybe we should check out the school a bit then just in case.  There had to be some reason he hunted the school first.  I mean, not that you were haunting it, more like roaming? I don’t know.”  Sean seemed a bit embarrassed, but Ghost smiled again and laughed.

“I’m not much of a haunter; I can’t really do anything scary.”

“Really? Have you ever tried, floating this, throwing?   We know you can walk through walls and stuff, but anything else?”  Sean was really interested in this.  Before he was caught up in the fact that Ghost was real, but now he wanted to know what being a ghost was all about.  Who got the chance to interview a live ghost? Well not live but in existence…

“Levitating things never really worked for me.  I did knock over a chair once, on accident. I was really angry at….someone.”  Ghost stopped himself when he saw Quinn’s panicked look.

He didn’t understand, Sean knew about how Quinn got thrown down the stairs now, something even he had not fully known.  Why would Quinn feel the need to hide the rest?

“Wow, that’s cool.”  Sean thankfully didn’t notice.  Quinn breathed a sigh of relief.

They got back to work, but Sean took a moment to look at Quinn.  He did notice the look on Quinn’s face and Ghost’s hesitation.  What made Ghost angry?  And who was it that Quinn did not want him to know about?

Sean took in the mop of dark brown hair that fell gently across Quinn’s forehead.  He wanted to brush it away from the other boys face.  See those chocolate brown eyes unhidden.

This wasn’t the first time Sean had felt this way about Quinn.  Every moment he feels closer to the other boy.  Now though, ever since he heard of Quinn’s accident, Sean had been having these odd urges.  To coddle him, comfort him.  He was feeling protective of his new friend.  That might have been the reason he pretty much panicked last night when Ghost came for him, and full on rushed out of his house, no questions asked.

He had never had feelings towards someone else, boy or girl.  At least not like this.  Sean was beginning to think he was asexual, but really was unsure.  He never had a chance to test his theory.  Now it didn’t seem quite as relevant.

Before he could stop himself, Sean slowly moved his hand forward and followed his want.  He pushed aside the soft brown hair.  Quinn’s eyes snapped to his. Questioning.  Sean paused for a moment, unsure of what to say, how to explain his urge.

He leaned in slowly, still under the trance of his feelings.  Quinn followed drawing nearer to the other boy.   They were inches apart now, breaths growing faster.  So close to touching the soft lips of the other.

“Hey guys!  Why don’t we talk to the librarian!?” Ghost popped into the room interrupting the moment unknowingly.

Sean cleared his throat after they both jumped apart.  “That’s actually probably a good idea.  She might know what newspaper would be best to look at.”

Sean hurried out of the room to carry out the task.  Knowing that if he stayed in that room he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from doing something stupid and ruining his new friend ship.  The first real relationship in his life.

Ghost look to Quinn, “What was that?” He noticed his friends blush.

“I don’t really know.”  Quinn admitted, shrugging his shoulders and he tried to figure it out for himself.

[I still need some to play Ghost, if you have any ideas I'd love to hear them! Picture of Quinn to the right --> :)  <3]
