Hayden's POV

I walked into the classroom and all the students stared at me. I put my head down and quickly gave the teacher a nurse pass. I sat down next to Mason who was eyeing me with a worried expression.

The teacher began teaching again so, Mason couldn't talk to me. I still can't believe Caleb helped me. And was actually worried about me. Maybe I don't have to hate him after all.

He seems to be close friends with Mason. Along with Finn and he doesn't seem too bad. I don't like his other friends, but you can't blame me. Once the teacher sat down to let us work, Mason bombarded me with questions.

"What happened? Are you okay? Was it Evan?" He asked inspecting my arm. I chuckled a little getting a glare from him. "I'm serious, what happened?" He said with a hint of annoyance in his voice.

"It's nothing. I just fell is all." I said embarrassed. Mason eyed me suspiciously and I could tell he knew I was lying. I sighed knowing I'll have to tell him the truth. I just don't want him to freak out. "It was Evan. He pushed me."

I looked every where but Mason knowing he is beyond piss. "Caleb helped me though. Before Evan could hit me Caleb yelled at him." I said now looking at him.

"He tried hitting you!" Mason yelled causing everyone to look at us. I put my head down in embarrassment. "I'm going to kill him." Mason said again too loudly.

"Mason, keep your voice down!" The teacher yelled glaring at him. Mason got up out of his chair and left. I ran after him not listening to the teacher. I'm so worried, I don't know what he'll do.

"Mason, stop!" I pleaded. I finally caught up to him and started to walk in a fast pace with him. "What are you doing?" I asked worried. He still kept ignoring me. "Mason!" I finally yelled stopping him.

"I'm going to hurt that bastard." He said walking off. I stood there shocked and just watched him leave. Finally the bell rang signaling lunch. That's where Mason is going to beat him up.

I nervously walked around in the lunch room looking for Evan or Mason. Finally Evan walked in and Mason past by me to get to him. "Mason, please." I said following him.

He turned around and looked at me. "He needs to know to stop messing with you." He growled angrily. I grabbed his arm to stop him from walking. "Hayden, let go." He said calmly.

"No, I don't want you to beat up Evan. I don't want you to get in trouble." I said sadly. "Evan is just jealous because he thinks you and I are dating. He wasn't being mean because I'm gay. We're dating, well we used to." I said whispering the last part.

Mason pushed my hand off his arm roughly. I looked up at him and saw him heading towards Evan. Before I knew it there was yelling and Mason was on top of him. I ran over to him and tried pushing Mason off of Evan.

I winced when Evan started to take control because I distracted Mason. Evan was showing no mercy as he roughly punched Mason. He was going to kill him if nobody did anything. Evan's anger took control and I'm sure he doesn't even know what he's doing anymore.

I grabbed his shoulder and as hard as I could I pushed him back. He stopped punching Mason and glared at me. He then realized it was me and his face softened. He got up and grabbed my hand, running out of the cafeteria. I tried staying to make sure Mason was okay.

Evan was too strong though. He took me to the bench outside and sat down next to me. I didn't realize I was crying till he wiped his thumb on my cheek. "I'm sorry about this morning." He whispered quietly.

I stared at him in shocked. He's never apologized to me before about his behavior. "I would never hit your pretty face." He said smiling. So, he'll hit me other places but not my face.

"Evan, I know you're very protective, but Mason is my friend. You've never let me have a truly friend. And now I have one. So I'm going back in there to see if he's alright." I said as calmly as I could.

"Anyone, but him, Hayden." He said sadly. "I- I love you and I don't want to lose you." He said grabbing my hand. I tried pulling my hand out of his grasp and surprisingly he let go.

"We're not dating. I like Mason a lot actually." I said getting up from the bench. I ran back into the school and didn't check if he was following me. I checked into the lunch room to see blood on the floor but no students.

They must've been sent to class. I headed to the nurses office and saw Mason laying down with Caleb by his side. I got closer and realized Jasper was there too. "Is he alright?" I asked quietly.

The two looked at me and both nodded their heads. "Where's Evan?" Caleb asked angrily. I looked down at Mason and he didn't have blood on his face anymore.

"Outside, probably leaving right now." I said not taking my eyes off of Mason. He still looked perfect even with his face so badly beaten. I wouldn't be surprised if he had a concussion.

"I'm actually right here." I turned around confused at the voice. Why is he here.
