There was no sign of Dax in the last couple month, and it was starting to make me think everything was going to be fine. Or maybe he was just waiting for the right moment. After all he was a jerk, but he couldn't be that cold hearted, right?

Besides I shouldn't be worrying so much about him. I'm sure we were fine and if he did tell we would know almost instantly. Even though I begged her not to go, Skyler took the risk and went down to the underworld to see if anything was going on. So far we had heard nothing back about Dax, which I suppose was good.

I sighed and got up from my bed to go get ready for another day of hell. School was horrible, but at least Tyler hasn't been problem for a while now. Ever since Jay got a hold of him all he did was give me nasty stares in the hallway and in class.

Walking past my closet, I quickly picked out a random outfit and blurred into the bathroom. To my surprise it took longer to do my business than usual. I wasn't even wearing anything that nice. Just a plain black V-neck and purple ripped skinny jeans. My hair was messy but at the same time good looking, so I decided to leave it as it was.

"Ryan hurry up we're going to be late!" I heard Destry called from out my window.

Glancing at the clock, which showed it was 5 minutes till the bell rang, I rushed down stairs and out the door, picking up Destry onto my back.

"It's about damn time babe, now hurry before we're late again!" he smacked my butt, causing me to jump. I hissed under my breath and shot him a glare. Des smiled innocently and kissed my cheek. I rolled my eyes and began to dash toward the school.

We were half way through the school day, 4th period to be exact, when an announcement interrupted other one of Mr.Oliver's rambling about Shakespeare. To be honest I was kind of glad that it stopped him from going on until the end of the period, but then again announcements were no better, especially this one.

"As some of you may know, winter prom is coming up in a couple of weeks and I'm sure you all are very excited. This year's theme will be a Masquerade Ball, very fun don't you think? And as always there will be crowning of a winter King and Queen. Nominations will be held at lunch and break, so make sure to vote for who you want to see wearing those crowns! Thank you and have a wonderful day. Goooo wolves!"

With that said the whole classroom broke out into chat about the prom. Girls talking about dresses and dates. Boys talking about who they were going to bang that night. Ugh, typical teens of this generation. I didn't see what was the big deal. It was only a school dance, plenty more where that came from in the school years. Mr. Oliver seemed as annoyed as I was, but that was only because he got interrupted.

"So babe what do you think?" Destry asked as he sat in the desk next to me.

He laughed once he saw the face I made and kissed my cheek. I sighed and ran a hand through my hair.

"Oh come" he gently shoved my shoulder "It'll be fun and it's Masquerade, how fun will that be? Besides you are from those times aren't you?" I chuckled at his question and shook my head.

"I'm not that old Des" I rolled my eyes.

"I sure hope not, I wouldn't want to be dating an old man" he teased. I raised an eyebrow at him, making a smile take over his lips.

Just as I was about to open my mouth to say something, two girls had walked up to my and Des. One had jet black hair and a style much like a punk rocker. The other girl, however, had a bit more lighter hair color, but punk nonetheless. Both of them where giggling and red faced.

"Can we help you ladies?" I asked, putting on a charming smile just to see their cheeks flame in red. Destry gently punched my shoulder, knowing what I was doing. To that I mocked his innocent smile, making him roll his eyes.

"I was wondering" the one with the lighter hair began "And my friend was wondering, if you'd guys like to go to prom with us?"

I looked to Destry, amused by the situation. He however, looked more uncomfortable and awkward. Shaking my head, I laughed quietly. "Sorry girls but I'm already taken and so is he" I shrugged.

"By who? The announcement was just made this morning" the darker haired one spoke.

"Well you see I'm gay, so is he, and if you have not noticed we are a couple" I said in a polite and gentle tone. They both exchanged their giggles and whispers to each other and then turned back to us.

"Is there something else you need to ask us?" I grinned.

Both girls shook their head no and walked away giggling and whispering to one another.

Destry looked just as confused as I was, but brushed it off my shoulders. I had other things to worry about than a school dance.

"So does this mean we're going?" he smiled brightly.

"Well I suppose we are"

Later that day, when we got out of school, Jay met up with us at the park. At first Des and I both were confused. My brother never left the house unless he was in need to feed, and that was hardly ever.

"Well I see someone left the nest" I joked, giving my brother a playful smirk. Jay rolled his eyes and began to crack his knuckles.

"I'm out because you need to start preparing for what's coming" he said which caused me to lose my grin.

"When and where" I demanded, tightening my grip on Destry's hand.

"That's the problem, I don't know when. According to Skyler, Dax didn't tell them where we were at. For reasons unknown" I looked down, clenching my other hand into a fist.

"The bastard thinks it's a game that's the reason" I growled.

"Maybe so but until then, your trainning starts now"

And with that said Destry was no longer by my side, but held over Jay shoulder. Des growled and started beating his fists against my brothers back.

"Put me down you asshole!" he yelled, kicking his legs as well.

"Your first task is called hunting and gathering. If you want your little human back you must hunt me down and gather him" Jay said, ignoring the hits from Des "And you must hurry or else" he smirked before dashing away and into the forest.

With a huff, I ran after him quickly picking up his scent. Vanilla and death. I sighed at the familiar smell of it. It was so much like my mother's, the vanilla part, which made my undead heart ache.

Never was there a moment when I wasn't getting into trouble. I caused them so much pain and disapointment that I had wished Jay saved them instead of me. Maybe it was only fair for me to suffer from my horrible mistakes as a human. Now I was more likely to have Destry taken away from me as well.

A sudden wave of pain shot through my body, bringing me out of my thoughts. And then like if I was on the sun itself, every inch of my body was ingolfed in flames. It was also impossible to find my breath. I hissed as the pain brought me to my knees and I screamed, clenching my chest.

Just as everything was getting blurry, I was pulled out of the sunlight which caused the flames to vanish. Destry had used his power to drag me away from the light and was quickly by my side, carefully examining my body.

"Where's.." I tried to catch my breathe "Where's Jay?"

Des shook his head and put a finger to my lips. "Just relax" his voice cracked as if he was on the edge of tears. I could feel the side of my face burned along with parts of my body, never had I ever witness such a thing. It was rare to find sunlight, everything was so gloomy and gray. Then again we could be close to the moutains.

"What happened?" I heard Jay's voice, loud and demanding.

"He got caught in some sunlight and I pulled him out before he was burned alive" Des answered, not taking his eyes off of me.

"Those powers of yours, Des, could come in handy you know" Jay knelt down beside me, running his fingers through my hair to brush away it from my forehead.

"Give me your hand Des" he finaly spoke after a few moments of thinking. Des did as he was told and held out his hand, which Jay then took and sliced the palm of it with his nail, and held it to my lips.

Red warm liquid trickled down my throat and made the burns heal. I coughed, pushing his hand away and wipped my mouth. Destry then wrapped an arm around my shoulder and slid the other one under my legs, lifting me up.

"I can still walk you know, I'm fine now" I hid my face in my dark hair. He shook his head and pecked my lips. I sighed and buried my face in his chest. Not once did I look up until we were back at home.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I hadn't even realized it either. It was not until I heard Jay and Destry actually having a conversation. One about prom.
