"You went to Shana's party with Jax and you beat a guy up for hurting him?" Summer walks up to me at my locker

"Is that a question or a recap?"

"I don't know both, I leave for one weekend and you two are best friends?"

"We're friends so what?"

"First of all he's MY best friend and second you need to be careful Jax doesn't let just anyone in"

"Meaning?" I shut my locker turning to her

"Meaning he probably likes you" I scoff at the idea "I'm serious Mitch he likes you and if you don't set him straight he'll just keep liking you till he's practically in love with you"

"And you'd just hate that" I start to walk and she follows along side of me

"Well you are my ex boyfriend and Jax is my best friend, I don't care that you guys are hanging out I'm just saying Jax is not like other guys, he's fragile and if he gets too invested in you and you tell him you don't feel the same he'll be hurt. Shit like that messes him up" 

"I hear ya" I walk away turning the corner. Jax has to know he can't like me like that, I mean I'm not even gay I don't care that he is but I know it's not who I am.

Classes are long, boring, and dreadful but it's finally lunch and I look forward to chilling under butternut and listening to some music. "Heard you got yelled at" Jax runs up to me as I walk to the back of the school

"She's like your mother"

"Yeah she picked me up this morning and saw the bandages and demanded I told her what happened. What'd she say to you?"

"Umm just that you're her best friend and as long as I'm not trying to steal you away from her then we're all good" I bend the truth a little

He laughs "I do feel like her child sometimes" I don't reply and keep walking "are you still mad at me?"

"I was never mad at you"

"Yeah you were, I was being a dick and you obviously were mad"

"You weren't being a dick"

"I feel bad about what I said"

"You should never feel bad for saying what you mean." We get to butternut and notice a paper taped to the tree "schedule for removal" I read the paper "wait what?"

"Oh no" I hear Jax behind me. Ripping the paper off the tree I walk away furious, how can they take the one good thing about this shitty place?! "Wait! Mitch where are you going?" Jax follows behind me

"To find out what the fuck is happening"

"You can't just go in there yelling at anyone you need to calm down"

"I am calm" I keep walking heading to the schools front desk. Running in front of me Jax blocks me "move Jax!"

"Not until you chill out"

"I'm fine!" I yell

"Look at you fists Mitch!" We both look down to my clenched fists "it's just a tree" I roll my eyes and walk around him.

Getting to the office I walk up the the lady behind the desk "how can I help you sweetie?" She smiles and I want to rip it off her face

"Who do I talk to about the tree in the back yard?"

"There's a tree in the back yard?"

"Yes! A butternut tree and it's been scheduled for removal" I practically throw the paper at her

Looking through her book she reads something "yep looks like it's being cut down tomorrow"

"Why?!" I bark

"Says here it's for the new football field"

"What the hell?! What's wrong with the old one?!" Everyone turns to me because of my yelling and I really don't care

"You need to lower your tone young man. The tree's being cut down and the field is being moved there end of story."

"This is bullshit!" I open the door and slam it as I walk out. I can feel my blood boiling! Not only does the football team suck but they don't need a new fucking field!

"What happened?" Jax runs up to me as I lean against the wall ready to tear this school apart

"They're removing the tree for a new football field!" I walk away getting out of this building "the football team fucking sucks and they're gonna cut down the tree for those fucking jokes"

"It's ok Mitch we can find somewhere else" he places a hand on my shoulder as I'm trying to leave

I push his hand off "you don't fucking get it Jax! No one does!" I walk away and he continues behind me "STOP!" I yell scaring him "STOP FOLLOWING ME! STAY AWAY FROM ME!" He stops and I rush out of the building.

"Where have you been?" My mom comes out of nowhere as I walk into my house

"I went for a drive"

"It's 2 am Mitchell! You can't just stay out all night without telling anyone"

"Mom I needed to go for a drive ok?!" I throw my keys on the table and walk away

"What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing!"

"Something's wrong you never yell at me"

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to yell" I've been doing too much of that today "it won't happen again" I apologize and walk away. I'm so fed up with everything, I feel like I'm slowly losing everything that means something to me and if Jax couldn't understand that butternut is more than just a tree then no one will understand.

Walking into my room I shut the door, kicking off my shoes I drop on my bed.

Fuck this day.
