"Dinner's ready! Amelia, can you tell it to Arthur while I'm setting the table, please?" Amelia's mother asked in a gentle voice without looking at her daughter.
Amelia ran out of the kitchen, and a few minutes later she came back with Arthur. We all sat down and Amelia's mother served us. We had made ravioli with cheese, it was really good!
"Michael, are you sure you're okay? You look paler than before." Amelia's mother said in a worried tone.
"I'm... I'm fine, really. I'm just tired and I have a headache, that's all." I replied with a small smile. She nodded, but with doubt in her eyes.
"Hey mum, how was work today? It looks like you had a great day." Amelia asked, already finishing her plate.
"I had a great day thank you, though it was pretty normal at the office. Luckily, there weren't a lot of sick people." She said smiling.
Once the dinner was over, Arthur went back to his room. I felt kind of bad for him. Except for when his mother talked to him a bit with signs, he just watched us. He must feel so alone...
"I'm going to take a quick shower. You can go into my brother's bedroom if you want." Amelia said with a smirk before walking upstairs, which made me roll my eyes at her.
I was going to follow her when her mother called me and told me to come next to her. I came closer and watched her, feeling a bit uncomfortable.
"Can I ask you a personal question?" She asked me, a strange glint in her eyes. I nodded, feeling a bit uncomfortable. What did she want? "You're sick, right?"
I began to shake slightly, my eyes going wide. "I'm a doctor, I know what you have. I recognize the symptoms. I don't understand why you haven't done anything yet... You know what's going to happen if you don't do anything about it, right?" She asked in a worried tone.
I nodded, still incapable of saying anything. "I think Arthur likes you... I saw the way he looks at you. And... If you don't do anything about what you have, you will hurt him. You will hurt Amelia, your parents and so many people. Just think about that, please." She said, with glassy eyes.
I nodded again, tears in my eyes before going upstairs. I went into Arthur's bedroom. My heart was beating so fast, I thought I was going to die! How did she know I was gay? Do I have something written on my face about it? Why everybody is telling me that they know I'm gay when it's supposed to be a secret?! And more importantly, how did she find out about that? Arthur was reading something, and when he saw me he smiled. I sat next to him.
"What are you reading?" I asked, looking at him while giving him a friendly smile.
He gave me the paper, blushing a little. It was a song's lyrics. I began to read it.
I'm standing across from you,
I'm dreaming of the things I'd do.
I don't speak; you don't know me at all,
For fear of what you might do,
I say nothing but stare at you.
And I'm dreaming, I'm tripping over you,
Truth be told, my problem's old.
You mean the world to me but you'll never know,
You could be cruel to me,
Why go risking the way that I see you.
That I see you, that I see you....
Conversation's not me at all,
I'm hesitating, only to fall,
And I'm weighted, I'm hating everyone,
Could it be you feel for me?
In any possible similarity,
If it's so, how would I know?
You'll never know me at all,
But I see you, but I see you, but I see you...
I'm standing across from you,
I've dreamt alone now the dreams won't do...
Wow. The lyrics were so beautiful. I would definitely listen to this song when I got home.
"This is so beautiful... I've no words." I whispered, staring at Arthur right in the eyes.
He smiled, still blushing. Then he took his laptop and wrote something quickly.
"I don't care that I'm different. I don't care that I'm deaf but I wish I could listen to music... I enjoy reading music lyrics... It's like a beautiful poem... Don't you think so?"
"You're right. This one in particular is really beautiful." I said with a smile.
"You're sleeping in my sister's room tonight, right?" He typed.
I nodded. "Yeah... She wants me to sleep with her... In her room I mean, not... Oh god." I groaned, taking my head in my hands.
Arthur was laughing, a hand on his mouth. He was trying to be quiet.
"That's not funny you know. I didn't mean to sounds so... perverted..." I mumbled a slight pink on my cheeks.
He laughed, patting my back gently. Even if he couldn't speak it was easy to understand him and we were in a comfortable silence. It was nice. A few minutes later, Amelia entered the room.
"Hey, I'm done. Do you want to take a shower? I'm sure Arthur can give you some boxers for the night." She said, with a small smile and this strange glint in her eyes.
"You're... You're serious? Ugh no thanks, I'll take a shower tomorrow at home... I can't ask him that, it's too embarrassing!" I said with a blush on my cheeks.
Arthur was looking at us oddly with an eyebrow raised. "Michael is wondering if he could borrow some of your boxers to take a shower but he's too dumb to ask it himself." She said rolling her eyes.
I glared at her; I swear I was going to kill her. Arthur nodded and made a sign to Amelia.
"What did he say?" I asked her, raising an eyebrow.
"I'm going to get some boxers for you." She grinned, walking to the dresser.
She took a few minutes to choose before handing me a pink pair. "Are you fucking serious?" I asked with wide eyes not knowing how to react.
She nodded, giving me the boxers. Arthur was laughing on the bed while trying to hide his face. I glared at them, leaving the room to take a shower. They would pay for that. Once I was done, I dressed myself and went in Arthur's room where they were talking.
"Why are you in your old clothes?" Amelia asked in a high-pitched voice.
"Well, I'm not going to walk around your house wearing only some boxers." I said rolling my eyes.
"Why not? We could have a great view." She answered, crossing her arms on her chest while glaring at me.
We played at Wii for a few hours before leaving Arthur's room. He kissed our cheek as a good night.
"So, how do you find Arthur?" She asked, in her underwear lying down on her bed.
"He's nice. He's a great guy." I answered with a smile.
"Well, come here now. We have to sleep."
"I'm sleeping in your bed?" I asked with wide eyes.
"Yes. It's not like you're going to rape me. Or you can sleep on the floor, I don't care." She murmured rolling her eyes.
Once in my boxers I went quickly under the covers next to Amelia. "You're cute in pink boxers." She giggled.
"Shut up. You're going to pay for that, I swear." I mumbled, turning my back on her.
I closed my eyes trying to sleep, when someone pinched my ass, which made me yell. "What do you think you're doing?" I asked in a high-pitched voice.
"Sorry. I just wanted to try something." She murmured.
"No wonder you don't have a boyfriend.' I muttered.
She slapped the back of my head before taking me in her arms as if I was a teddy bear. Why did I accept to spend the weekend here?
I waited until Amelia was asleep to close my eyes, trying not to think about the conversation I had with her mother, falling into a strange dream instantly.
