Weeks passed on slowly and Christmas was getting closer and closer. My relationship with Arthur changed a lot during these weeks; we were seeing each other time to time but not as much as before. Do you want to know what the worst is? It wasn't his fault, it was mine. But I had my reasons.
Sighing, I closed my laptop. Christmas was in less than a month and I still had to find a present to Arthur. I wanted to give him something special; something he would never be able to forget. I checked out what time it was and remarked it was almost time to meet Arthur to the coffee shop which was down the street.
I left the house and began to walk, enjoying the cold wind on my still very short hair. When I arrived to the coffee shop, Arthur was already there, waiting for me, sitting in a corner of the shop. I walked toward him and sat next to him; giving him a small peck on the lips. Arthur gave me a small smile and we ordered our beverages.
"Michael... Do you still want to be with me?" He asked a frown on his face. He was biting his lips anxiously while waiting for my answer.
I stared at him in shock for a few seconds before realizing why he was thinking I didn't want to be with him anymore. I took his hand into mine and waited for him to look at me before speaking. "I know why you think that but you're wrong. You mean a lot to me, more than you can imagine. I know I've been distant but that's because I have a lot on my mind at the moment but, I promise, it has nothing to do with you." I ended my speech in a whisper, staring at him while I was waiting for his reaction.
"You know, if something is bothering you, you could speak to me. I'll do my best to help you. When you stopped coming over, I thought I did something to upset you..." He said a frown on his face while he was staring at the table. I just wanted to hug him and never let him go.
We were interrupted by a young waiter, he gave us our drinks and left, giving us a gentle smile. That's why I liked this place so much; people who were working here were not homophobic and it felt great. I took a big gulp of my hot tea, closing my eyes and enjoying the great taste and the warm feeling inside me. When I opened my eyes, Arthur was staring at me, a slight blush on his cheeks. I raised an eyebrow, and waited for his explanation.
"Your head... While you were enjoying your tea, you had the same expression than when you were under me... It was hot..." He mumbled, his blush getting heavier. His comment made me blush too, I didn't know what to say, it was so embarrassing.
We joked and enjoyed this moment without thinking about anything else. This afternoon made me realize how much I missed him. Spending time with him also made me realize how much I loved him and how much I will miss him.
"Everything is alright? I mean... You look exhausted; it's been a while since I saw you like that." He said, worry in his beautiful baby voice.
"Yeah, I'm fine... I'm just really tired and I'm studying a lot at the moment. I've missed a lot of school and I really want to catch up... You know, I never thought I would have headaches from studying." I said, trying to joke a little.
"You should relax... Why don't you take a few days off so we could hang out? I could rent a small cottage for a few days near the beach, it would be perfect, don't you agree?" He asked, staring at me while he was waiting for an answer.
I thought about it a few minutes before answering. "Yeah, I would love to. That would be perfect." I said, giving him a loving smile. A few days with Arthur, perfect. I really needed this right now.
"Great! We could leave tomorrow and come back Monday!" He exclaimed happiness and relief in his eyes. I loved to see him that way. "You will send me a message if your parents are okay with that and I'll pick you him tomorrow morning!"
We kissed each other as a goodbye and we left the coffee shop. I walked back to my house, trying to stay positive. I haven't talked to my parents for at least two weeks, I've been so busy but it was better that way. I know I won't ask them and will just meet Arthur tomorrow. They don't need to know why I absolutely want to go there; I want to see Arthur happy one last time. They would easily understand if they would see me more than a few seconds every day; I felt bad about that because I know how they will feel. But there's nothing we can do about that. I sighed and quickly entered into the house, closing the door behind me before hurrying toward my room.
"Michael, is that you?" My mother asked from the kitchen. As nobody answered her, she began to walk up the stairs but I had enough time to lock the door behind me. "Michael, are you alright? We're worried about you, you know. You're always locked in your room..." She said in a small, pleading voice. I could easily hear the worry in her voice.
"Yeah... I'm just really busy with my studies; I want to catch up so I won't have to do another year." I said in a confidant voice. I hated the way I was lying to my own mother, I hated it. Instead of studying as I said to my mother, I began to write some letters after sending a message to Arthur, telling him I would see him tomorrow. Once I was done writing them; I put two letters on my desk and put the two others into my bag of clothes I would take with me tomorrow.
Once everything was ready, I decided it was time to sleep; I undressed myself until I was into my underwear and went into my bed. Closing my eyes, I imagined how my life would be if some things were different. I woke up early in the morning, I couldn't sleep anymore. I was excited to see Arthur again but, on the other hand, I was sad; I would miss my parents, they were such amazing people.
I took a quick shower and dressed myself nicely. Once I was ready, I took my bad, making sure the two letters were there before leaving my room as quietly as possible without locking the door so my parents would be able to see the letters. I was able to leave the house without any interruption, maybe they were still asleep? I began to walk toward Arthur and Amelia's house, trying to ignore the constant pain in my head. It was coming back, stronger than ever.
Once I was in front of the marble door, I knocked and waited for someone to open the door. To my surprise, Amelia opened the door and stared at me a small smile on her lips. I smiled back and took her in my arms before kissing her cheek. I missed her so much! At first, she was surprised by my gesture but then, she hugged me back.
"I missed you Michael! How are you? You look terrible!" She exclaimed, worry in her eyes.
"I'm fine, I promise. I have something for you, but you have to promise me not to open it before, at least, tomorrow!" I warned, giving her a suspicious look, I knew her personality and I knew that she hated waiting more than anything.
She nodded, giving me a questioning look. Luckily for me, Arthur came at this precise moment. I silently thanked him, giving him a passionate kiss. I opened my bag and gave the letter to Amelia while Arthur stared at us, looking confused. Weleft as soon as I gave the letter.
"What did you give to Amelia?" Arthur asked, breaking the silence after a few minutes on the road.
I didn't answered and waited for us to be at a red light before speaking so he could look at my lips. "A letter but don't worry, you also have one." I said, giving him a big smile.
He stared at me strangely but said nothing. The travel to the beach was very quiet, mainly because he couldn't hear what I was saying. After one hour of car, we were finally there, in front of the beach. We got out of the car, enjoying the cold air against us. As expected, the beach was empty. We decided to walk near the sea first, and then we would go to the cottage. We walked, hand in hand, enjoying this moment. I wanted to remember this moment forever. We stopped and looked at the sea for a moment, and then I faced Arthur. I took a deep breath before taking his head into my cold hands. I gave him a romantic kiss, showing him how much he meant to me before pulling away. "I love you, Arthur. Forever and always." I murmured lovingly as tears were forming into my eyes.
"I love you too. Forever and always." He said, staring at me as a few tears escaped from his eyes. I whipped his tears before taking him into my arms, hugging him tightly.
Words weren't needed, he knew.
