Dakota's POV
"Dakota sweetie, your father and I are on our way out." My mom shook me awake. I groaned, but reluctantly opened my eyes. I saw my mom sitting on the side of my bed.
"Goodmorning Mom." I mumbled, sitting up and stretching.
"Goodmorning honey. Come down, I've cooked breakfast for you so we can all eat together once more before we go." I nodded and she smiled at me before leaving the room. I wondered how long she'd been trying to wake me up. I was such a hard sleeper, it usually took a bit of effort.
I went to the bathroom and looked in the mirror. I grinned at myself and ran a hand through my blond hair. I have blue eyes and long lashes along with a perfect smile. My face always stayed cleanly shaven, and although I had a few pimples every now and then, I thought I was flawless.
"Boy, are you sexy." I winked at myself and went to the toilet to pee.
As I went through my morning routine, I thought of what I'd be doing today. It's summer after all, and my mother and father were going to be leaving for a business trip today. The two owned several different companies and always had meetings all over the world. I usually go with them when it's summertime, but this time, I opted out.
They were supposed to only be gone for a week but I would still miss them.
I went downstairs and saw the two of them waiting for me to come down. Well, Mom was making coffee and Dad was typing on his phone.
"Goodmorning Dad." He smiled at me and I went over and patted his shoulder. I frowned at him and fixed his tie.
"Goodmorning D."
"Why are you even wearing this tie?" I asked him and he shrugged.
"Your mother said I wear jeans to too many of our meetings." He muttered before winking at me. I laughed and shook my head.
"I'll admit, you do. But you pull it off." He laughed and Mom brought the coffee to the table. The plates were already there and my stomach was growling.
"What're you two talking about?" She asked, eyeing us.
"How hungry I am." Dad said rubbing his stomach. She rolled her eyes but smiled.
"Well, now we can eat." I dug in, and Mom began talking.
"So Dakota, are you going to be hanging out with Oliver today?" I shrugged.
"I don't know if I want to date him anymore. He'd be a good friend. I'll probably just hang out with Sadie." Dad raises his eyebrow.
"I liked Oliver. What happened?"
"Well, he didn't want to be out with me. And yeah, I understand that it's scary to come out but, he put his friends in front of me too much because of it. He was just too afraid to even hang out with me a little. But he was sweet when it was just us." I sighed. Oliver was a great guy, honestly. I just had too many problems with his friends.
"Aww, sweetie. I'm so sorry." Mom told me. I shrugged.
"I'm fine with it, honestly." I laughed a little. I wasn't exactly telling the truth, but I would eventually be okay with it.
"It's okay, you're going to find a nice young man who's out and will proudly show you off." My father told me. I smiled widely, they were so supportive.
"God, I love you guys. I'm going to miss you so much this week."
"We'll miss you too. Are you sure you don't want to come?" My father asked. I wanted to, but I really wanted the two of them to have alone time. They were always so focused on me and they deserved time to themselves.
"No, I'm going to stay. Besides, I promised Sadie I'd go to the lake with her this weekend." They smiled and nodded.
Soon, it was time for them to go. I sighed and hugged them tightly.
"Well, you two stay safe. Call me as soon as you're there please?" I told them.
"We promise. You stay safe too. Call if you need anything at all. The card is loaded, but don't buy anything crazy." Mom told me. I laughed and nodded.
"Okay. Goodbye. I love you guys." They both kissed my forehead and left. I closed the door and hummed.
What to do now?
My phone vibrated and I looked down to see Oliver calling me.
"Hello?"
"Hey, baby. You and I should hang out today." He told me.
"I'm surprised you aren't with your friends." I mumbled.
"I... just can't let them know, okay? But, I am serious about you, you know? I really like you, I just need time to ease into this. I'm outside, I'll make it up to you right now." I smiled a little.
"You're lying, there's no way you're outside." He laughed.
"Really?" I heard the doorbell ring and I grinned, going over to open the door. He stood there, smiling at me and I smiled.Oliver was an attractive boy. He had a nice fucking body and blonde, curly hair. His eyes were a beautiful light brown.
"I told you not to come over without telling me." He shrugged.
"I did tell you, just now." I laughed and hugged him. He hugged me back tightly and kissed my cheek.
"Whatever. What do you want to do?" He looked around.
"Hang out here?" I raised my eyebrow.
"This isn't making it up to me." He frowned.
"We're not going anywhere yet, I told you I wasn't ready for that." I sighed.
"I know, but we can go somewhere and just appear as friends."
"I don't know..." I stared at him and shook my head. I wasn't going to be with someone who is ashamed to be seen with me.
"Yeah... I thought so. You're ashamed of being seen with me too." He looked away, then looked at his fingers.
"I–I'm not."
"You are. And with that being said, we need to break up." His eyes widened and he took my hand in his.
"Dakota, baby, you don't want this."
"No, you don't want this. You can go be with someone who you're proud of being with. I won't be someone who you just sneak around with. Not to mention some of your friends talk shit about me and you probably let them." His face fell, and I knew it was true. "Exactly. Call me when you're ready to be yourself." He sighed and kissed my cheek before turning and opening the door to leave.
"I'll see you around, right?" He asked me, hopefully. I sighed and shrugged.
"I guess." He gave me a small smile and left my house. I locked the door and went up to my room, slightly disappointed.
I looked at my phone, seeing messages from Sadie. I smiled and called her.
"Dakota!"
"Sadie?" I asked and she laughed.
"Reid and I are going to the beach. Come along babe, you know I need to have you there."
"Okay! I'll get ready right now. What time are you guys going to be there?"
"Two o'clock."
"Got it. I'll see you there!"
I ran up the stairs to get ready. I had to look my best, anyone could be there today!
I looked in my closet for my swim trunks and picked a nice, neon pink pair that I absolutely loved. From there, I found a t-shirt just in case. Then, I found an extra set of clothes, for the chance that we go somewhere else after this.
I went to the bathroom and shaved my legs, along with my face. I shaved very carefully. I didn't want any scratches or bumps on my face, it needed to be perfect.
I put on sunscreen, because I didn't not want to have a sunburn. I hated them with a passion.
When I finished, I was satisfied. I put my clothes on and went to the bathroom to do my hair.
I know, we're at the beach, why do my hair?
Because first of all, I'm not getting in the water. I just go there to scope out guys and be supportive of my best friend... Maybe today I would find someone who actually wants to be seen with me.
I looked at myself in the mirror and grinned. I could have anyone I wanted. "You're going to steal someone's boyfriend today." I told myself, then burst out laughing.
I texted Sadie and told her I was about to leave my house.
She answered back quickly with a simple "okay", so I left.
The drive to the beach wasn't bad. I just sang my favorite songs in the car.
In my opinion, I was an amazing singer. I should've been on American Idol honestly, but others beg to differ. Not like I care about their opinions.
I was confident in myself and all of the things I did. I knew I had a habit of allowing people to run over me, but other than that, I was amazing.
I pulled up to the beach, still singing along to Brittney Spears. Don't judge me, I love her music, it's perfect.
I got out, texting Sadie to as I walked towards the sand. I was looking down and I felt someone jump on my back. I fell straight into the sand and I heard giggling.
"Seriously Sadie?" I told her, laughing a little.
"Sorry D." We stood up and she hugged me tightly.
"It's okay. I'm just ready to relax under the sun."
"You mean under your umbrella." I laughed and looked behind her to see Reid walking towards us. Reid was her boyfriend, who was also friends with Oliver.
Reid is an attractive asshole. But, he is pretty nice to Sadie, which makes me okay with their relationship.
He's about 6' tall and has brown, neatly cut hair. His eyes are a grayish color and he's got a perfectly fit body under his clothes. I'm not checking my best friend's boy friend out, I just happened to have gym with him and see it.
"Hey Reid." He nodded to me and wrapped an arm around Sadie.
"Hey Dak. Babe, the guys are already here. Let's go meet them."
"Okay." She smiled at me and we began walking over to his friends. I saw Oliver, conversing with his friends, and I frowned. Thankfully, these were the cool guys; Oliver's friends who were nice but annoying.
"Ew, Oliver." I muttered and Sadie giggled.
"He is your boyfriend." She whispered.
"Not anymore." Her eyes widened.
"You broke up with him? I'm so proud of you." I laughed and shrugged.
"Yeah... thanks." She gave me a look that said we'd talk later and I nodded.
As we walked over, I saw Oliver checking me out, very openly. I raised my eyebrow at him and he smiled sheepishly before going back to his friends. I smiled to myself and sat on a towel.
I was happy to be out on the beach with my best friend. I just hoped the rest of our friends came quickly. I couldn't stand being out here with those boys very long. Not that they're mean to me, but once again, they're just annoying. Hot, but annoying.
