Harry watches as Louis' small smile quickly erases from his face, his blue eyes falter to the envelope in Harry's hand. He stands there for a moment, both of them still and quiet. Then, in a moment, Louis grabs the envelope from Harry's grasp and tears it open while he runs out of the room and towards their small living space.

"Lou! Wha-" Harry yells running behind him. He watches as the shorter boy scans the paper, his eyes rapidly reading, and his knuckles white from holding the paper so tight.

Louis finishes the paper before looking up at the taller boy in front of him. Harry watches as he drops the paper and it drifts slowly onto their cheap hardwood flooring. His knees wobble a bit so Harry quickly catches Louis before he falls.

"Babe..What-what's going on?" Harry asks in a worrisome tone. He holds Louis like a child and begins tucking his soft brown hair behind his ear repeatingly. Harry knew that was always a comforting feeling to Louis.

"I-I didn't make the team," Louis manages to whisper before letting out a sob. He hides his face into Harry's shoulder and snakes his arms around Harry's waist tightly.

"Didn't make what sweetheart?"

"I didn't make the team. I-I competed for a spot on the skating team. For the Winter Olympics you know? I tried to keep it a secret just-just in case I didn't make it so your hopes wouldn't get up..." As he finishes a few more tears drop down Louis' soft features. It breaks Harry's heart to see his beautiful boy in such a state like this.

"I know...I know I don't make a lot of money and I just wanted for once to provide more for you," he hiccups, looking up with puffy red eyes. Harry guides him to their couch where he sits him down and wraps him in one of his infamous, soul warming hugs. Harry then begins to give little kisses on the top of his head, cheeks, and the tip of his nose.

"Louis, oh honey, come here...it's okay." He says affirmatively before giving him another hug.

"I'm so proud of you Louis. No matter what. Everything you've done. Everything you've worked for. It's doesn't matter to me if you had made the team or not. They're missing out on an incredible, hard working, and talented skater. It's their loss. I promise you," Harry says holding Louis' cheeks up and making blue meet green.

Louis stares blankly at Harry, it was obvious he was having a difficult time with this but his boyfriends words definitely helped. They always did.

Still, Louis was upset. It seemed as though nothing could cheer him up no matter what Harry did. Movies, food, even sex didn't bring Louis out of this funk. It had been almost 2 weeks and Harry thought at this point his boyfriend was flat out depressed. This was serious and Harry was running out of ideas.

"Lou? Baby?" Harry asks shuffling into the living room to see his boyfriend hugging his knees, watching his routine he submitted to the judges on his laptop. His eyes looked glazed over as he kept replaying the tape, pausing at random moments and writing a few notes down. Harry swears Louis' seen the video over 100 times.

"I'm going to bed do you wanna lay with me?" Harry pleads but in a soft tone. Louis' back is hunched as he mumbles a few words and clicks replay on the video.

Harry's had enough. He hasn't cuddled with his man in what feels like weeks. He sighs and trudges back into their shared room where he opens their closet (with mostly Harry's clothes) and reaches for a stuffed rainbow bear on the top shelf. He crawls into bed and snuggles it until he falls asleep, dreaming about a happy Louis.

Days pass and and everything seems to become a routine. The boys wake up, eat a quick breakfast, and Harry heads in for work. Shortly after Louis leaves for the gym, then a practice with his coach, and then  to the rink to conduct lessons and work on his own routines and skills. Harry would either stay late or come home early to have dinner waiting on a hungry Lou when he gets home. After that Louis watches and takes notes on his practices and routines while Harry watches him, hopelessly.

Laying in bed after a long, particularly boring and ordinary day, Harry stares at the ceiling with his head of curls against his pillow. His mind raced with ideas of what he could do to get Louis and now himself, out of this routine. His eyes widened for a second before he got out of bed and booted up his old uni laptop that was on his bed stand and began typing away on the search engine.

3 weeks later

"And here are your room keys...I hope you two enjoy your stay," the little too friendly receptionist says to Harry. She hands Harry the keys and watches with jealously as Louis walks away from the desk with his boyfriend. Louis' chuckles softly as he gets onto his tippy toes for a moment to kiss Harry on the cheek.

The two had just arrived to the ski resort which Harry planned as a surprise for his boyfriend. He thought it'd be a great get away from their apartment and hope it'd get Louis out of his funk. He splurged on one of the nicer rooms with a beautiful view of the mountain side covered in sparkly white snow.

Louis gasps once they enter their suite to reveal a large window overlooking the ski hills. "This is amazing Harry."

"You deserve it Lou. I want you to relax and enjoy this weekend." Harry says. He comes up from behind Louis who was gazing out at the view and gave him a little kiss on the cheek. Harry gave his toush a little squeeze as he walked away to unpack some of his things.

After the boys get settled in, they get dressed and hit the slopes. The whole day was filled with Harry giggling at Louis, because "ice skating is my thing, not skiing" — his quote of defense — spectacular lift rides, and eskimo kisses.

The sun had dipped below the mountains by the time the boys had bathed and gotten cleaned up, Harry made a reservation for the two at a fine dining restaurant not far from where they were staying. He didn't start to get nervous until Louis stepped out of the bathroom, looking ready to go.

A short breath left his lips as he took his boyfriend in. He was wearing black trousers and shiny black shoes. No socks though, Louis hated socks. Even in the cold weather. Harry made him wear them sometimes in the cold winter months, but tonight he couldn't be bothered, he loves his ankles. His jacket, was green like the leaves that poked out from the trees under the blanket of snow.

"You look beautiful, Louis," Harry says softly.

Louis blushes, a sheepish grin on his face. "So do you."

Harry smiles and takes him in for a tight hug. He had a plan. He had been planning it for months, shit years.

The small box in his jacket pocket felt as though it was bulging. Would Louis notice?

"Are you ready to go?" Louis asks. "I'm starving."

"Yes let's go." Harry taps on Louis' bum before grabbing his hand and guiding him towards the door, trying to compensate for his nervousness.

~~

"Are you satisfied?" Harry takes a sip of wine slowly, never breaking eye contact.

Louis nods his head.

"Good. Come with me."

Harry extends his hand and helps Louis up from their table. He clears the lump in his throat as he grips Louis' hand a little tighter. He's more nervous than he thought he would be.

The couple pass by the hostess stand. Louis cheerfully waves them goodbye as Harry gives a quick nod to the young lady. She smiles as they head towards the door.

"Isn't it this way?" Louis asks, pointing towards the exit.

"I wanna show you something. I saw it when I went to the restroom."

Louis moss tentatively, following Harry. They reach another set of doors leading outside.

"After you," Harry says quietly. Louis smiles.

The snow started up again while they were still eating, a fresh thin layer of powder covered the decking and railings.

"Oh Harry it's so beautiful." Louis says, taking in what he could. The moon was lit brightly, revealing a beautiful mountainous snowy landscape. The live music from inside the restaurant could be heard softly.

Harry watches as his soulmate bathes in the moonlight. Louis extends his hand to watch the snowflakes melt in his palm.

Harry takes a long breath before meeting him at the railing. He turns to Louis.

Snowflakes stick to the wisps of his hair and tickle the ends of his eyelashes. Absolutely gorgeous.

Harry grins ear to ear.

"Louis"

"Yes Harry?"

Harry collects Louis' hands into his.

"I have to tell you something. Er - ask you I mean."

"Anything baby." Louis wraps his hands around Harry's waist, watching as his curls begin to collect snowflakes. His eyes look brighter in the moonlight.

"I. I never thought I'd find you. And of all places a skating rink. I fell in love with you, right then and there, when I was behind that counter."

Harry is trying very hard to focus on his rehearsed speech. Louis is biting his lip, his smile growing by the moment.

Harry takes a deep breath and stares out at the view for a moment. "And then I saw you out there skating," he looks back at Louis.

"And for whatever reason I fell in love all over again."

Louis quickly wipes a tear away from his cheek.

"I've been so lucky for the past few years, so proud, to call you my boyfriend. And I thought to myself one night, while you were falling asleep in my arms, that the only way my life could get any better is if I was holding my husband in my arms."

Louis chokes back a laugh, tears beginning to fall down his cheeks. Harry falls to one knee and presents a box.

"Louis William Tomlinson. Will you do me the incredible honor of accepting my hand in marriage?" Harry asks earnestly, staring up at Louis. He opens the box and presents the ring.

For a short moment all that fills the air is love. The falling snow sounds so intimate and feels as if it's filled with warmth.

Louis takes Harry at this moment. He clutches onto Harry's hands and looks at the ring.

"Yes yes!" Louis exclaims, pushing his lips onto Harry's in a rush. They embrace tightly as they both begin to laugh and wipe tears from each other's eyes. Harry gently places the ring into his finger. They both stare at it lovingly.

Louis leans his head against Harry's shoulder, looking up at his now financée. The moonlight reflects off him him, appearing as if he's glowing.

"Shall we head back inside? There should be a bottle of champagne waiting for us to pop," he grins.

Louis laughs softly, his hand now holding onto Harry's jacket. They both look out onto the view, perplexed at how the sky and land seem to blend together, creating the most spectacular sight.

"In just a minute," Louis whispers.

The stars shine for them that night.
