"Yeah, see you this evening!" Max shouted to his family before closing the front door.
He had already packed his bag on Friday evening, so that he could leave for the woods early on Saturday morning. For a 'bird watching', as his family called it.
It was a nice morning. The sun was still not completely up, but Max knew it was the best time of the day to go to the woods.
He drove through small roads as far as he could, and after finding a cosy area to park, he turned off the engine and stepped out of the car.
Birds were chirping and it was a really nice morning. Clear sky, sun, and low humidity in the air was the most suiting weather for what he had planned. He inhaled the fresh scent of trees and moss.
Max grabbed his backpack from the backseat and headed towards the depths of the woods. He had all the things he needed for gathering herbs, including his journal. Everyone in his family had one of their own.
After around 20 mins of walking, he had reached a nice clearing, surrounded by trees, and with a small lake in the middle. Max opened his backpack, removed his tools and began to search for the right herbs.
He was so immersed in himself, that he didn't the dark shadows approaching him.
A loud snap roused him from his thoughts.
"Jesus fucking Christ!" He jumped backwards and landed gracelessly on his ass.
In front of him were two large wolves with crimson red eyes. Little by little, with their ears pricked back, they were surrounding him. Max felt his heart beating against his rib cage as if it were bursting from his chest to run away.
"Good thing that my guts don't feel the same way, else I would be in need of a new pair of pants", Max thought to himself.
He didn't have much time to think. He turned his head a bit to the side, just to see three other wolves on his right side. One was black with blue eyes and two others were brown. They didn't look hostile or threatening towards Max. The black one stood up from the rest. He was tallest, and his fur was almost blue.
"These are no ordinary wolves", Max thought to himself. They were huge; much larger than regular wolves. The black one could easily devour Max with one bite, like an afternoon snack.
Max wasn't stupid. He was familiar with supernatural beings, and it was obvious that all of these wolves were werewolves. The ones with the red eyes were rogues...
It didn't look good, but the small boy wasn't scared now. Just surprised. He looked at the rogues, that were approaching him, and calmly reached for his pocket with one hand, lifting the other into the air with a motion towards the other three to stay still.
As the rogues prepared to pounce, the black wolf shuffled nervously, questioningly looking at Max, who still had his hand in the air, signalling not to attack.
As one of the rogues prepared for a jump, Max suddenly took something from his pocket and smashed it on the ground in front of the aggressive wolf. Black smoke rose all around them, completely covering everything. Max tried to stand as still as he could. Soon, his hand felt something soft against his skin. He looked at what was touching him and saw that it was the black wolf, standing at the side of Max and ready to pounce on anyone who would try to approach Max.
They stood in complete silence, until a few moments passed and the smoke cleared. Two naked men lie infront of them.
The remaining two wolves looked with confusion at the black wolf, and then to Max, who stood smiling triumphantly.
Without a moment's notice, the black wolf had shifted form, revealing none other than Shawn.
Max didn't look surprised at all; he already had some suspicions before. But Shawn, on the other hand, was stunned.
In a blink of the eye, he was standing in front of Max, not even caring that he was wearing absolutely nothing other than his bare skin.
"You are a witch...?"
"No shit, sherlock" Max smirked.
