Chapter 1

There would be consequences; Elias new that. Finally, his one chance at freedom had presented itself, and he took it. He ran, running into the mundane world above in hopes of getting away from the abusive hand of his higher up. But, as he thought he could finally stop running for just the smallest moment to breathe, he was shoved against the alley wall, the demon he only knew as his master looming over him.

In the underworld, his kind were known as lower class demons, the demons that were either used as servants or eaten by larger than them. Other times they were sold and used as precious barter for their skills.

Elias cried out quietly in pain as the larger demon dug its claws into his stomach, causing warm crimson to stream down his body and soak his shabby clothes. And just as he thought he was going to have his insides ripped from his body, the demon turned to ash before his golden eyes.

Gasping for breath, he stumbled away once he was released, his curved black horns showing. His raven locks flowed over his shoulders effortlessly, the soft hairs long enough to reach the small of his back. Elias gripped his cut up middle, looking up at his savior as chilled breaths left his throat. He hesitated as he was asked who he was to the deceased demon, his eyes wide in fear.

"His...former servant." He answered, gesturing with a weak nod towards the pile of ash. "Y-you killed him..." He trailed off with a shiver, the cold gripping his thin frame. It was very easy to spot a low ranking demon based off their aura.

The man walked up to him and grabbed him by the throat. "Well, I guess I'll kill two birds with one stone. Or do you want to beg on your knees for you life." Elias felt his chest burn with panic at the man's words, gasping as he was grabbed. He weakly grabbed the man's wrist, squirming helplessly as he cried out.

"No! Stop it!" He winced. The figure growled quietly then threw him to the ground, making Elias grunt. His body was shaking violently as he moved to sit up. "Please, don't kill me! You killed my master, you freed me, so I am to serve you from on. I am eternally in your debt," he coughed, gripping his stomach. "I don't want to be hurt anymore..." He whispered.

The man stopped and looked at him. "A demon is to serve it's killer?" Elias nodded, swallowing thickly. "It is better to live under the control of a hunter than die at the hands of that." He muttered and gestured to the sizzling pile of ash.

He chuckled. "Get up then, I have other business to attend to." The smoke rose, swirling around his arms and hands. He stood, gold eyes shimmering with unshed tears as he used the wall for support. "Yes sir." He sighed.

The taller male looked at him then began walking, pulling his hood over his eyes, and sheathing the sword he used to kill the demon. "Where we are going, you better keep your mouth shut, unless you want yourself killed."

Elias simply nodded, pressing his lips into a straight line. He remained contently quite, simply following behind the hunter like a loyal hound. He left a thin trail of blood behind him, the wounds in his stomach deep. The man knew he was bleeding but had no intentions on healing him soon.
