Two weeks after Kellin's small break down, he finally began to get really smart. His vocabulary was better and he only called himself Kellin when he got upset. It was amazing to me that he still smiled everyday, truly. After everything he'd gone through and still thinking about and believing the words those awful people had said to him, it just broke my heart. Everyday I'd find out a little bit more about how his life used to be, how horribly he'd been treated. The only that ever really cheered me up after that was when he'd tell me a story about Dr.Ashby, or Alan as that was his first name. He'd smile so wide when he talked about some of the music he got to listen to or the jokes the ginger had told him. I was happy to know that not everything in Kellin's past had been a black hole.

"C'mon Kell, it's time to go!" I yelled from the living room as I laced up my shoes.

"I am hurrying!" I heard his voice from my room, which made me chuckle, he talked amazingly. Just, he didn't abbreviate anything which I found adorable.

"I'm leaving without you!" I called and opened the front door, laughing when he ran into the living room with his shirt half buttoned and only one shoe on. "What's taking so long you slow poke?" I teased as I walked closer to him. His cheeks flushed a bright shade of pink and he toyed with the buttons on his shirt. "I am not good at clipping buttons." He said sheepishly

"That's okay kitten, I can button this for you." I whispered as I began to redo Kellin's shirt which had been inside-out. He blushed again and I saw his ears twitch on his head, causing my attention to sway for a few seconds.

"Vic, what will be at the zoo?" He asked in a small voice, nervous about leaving the house which I honestly hadn't allowed him to do much.

I finished his shirt and booped his nose, watching it scrunch up in a cute way. "Well, at the zoo there are hundreds of animals; ranging from snakes to big cats."  He grinned when I mentioned cats and began to jump in excitement, "Come on Vic, we has to go! Come on, come on, come on!" He squealed and grabbed my hand, ignoring the way I laughed when he said has instead of have. "Okay, Kells, but, beanie first." He nodded eagerly and slipped a Beartooth beanie over his ears and black hair, making him look entirely human seeing as his tail was already hidden.

"Can we go now?" He stressed, blueish green eyes eager. I nodded and let him drag me to Jaime's car, his small hand clutching mine as he practically shoved me into the drivers seat. "Hurry Vic, it is time to go!" He said and buckled his seat belt, still shaking with excitement. He looked at me with wide eyes, practically begging me to hurry. "Okay, okay, we're going." I said in fake exasperation, smiling when he did.

As soon as we stepped through the gates of the zoo, Kellin practically began to glow. His pale face stretching with a genuine smile, showing all his teeth and his eyes crinkling. The happiness practically radiated off him in waves; it made me so proud and I didn't even know why. I watched as he looked around in amazement and wonder, the crowds of people and many animals seemed to overwhelm him in a good sort of way. "Ready to go look round?" I asked and he turned back to me, nodding his head furiously.

The exhibit closest to us was a small group of tortoises that moved slower than anything I'd ever seen. Kellin seemed bored by them so I quickly led him to some of the more exciting ones, like the reptile house. It took us an hour and by the time we got to the big cats part, I was sweating and had a bottle of water that I kept pouring on my head but Kellin didn't seem to even notice as he continued looking around. I got joy out of seeing him so carefree, but it just got better when we reached the first enclosure of lions.

Kellin's mouth dropped open and his eyes widened as he saw tone of the larger male lions walking near the glass. "Look, Vic!" He said in a high pitched tone, making me chuckle. I noticed he seemed frozen to the spot and said, "You wanna get closer?"  He seemed shocked at that but hesitantly nodded and made his way towards the enclosure. I watched as the lion seemed to stare at Kellin. Their eyes were trained on each other and I began to grab Kellin's hand, as the trance he was in scared me. When his attention slowly came from the wild animal to me, he seemed confused. "What just-"

He was cut off by a voice that I didn't recognize, "Kellin?"

I turned and saw a short man with ginger hair next to a much taller one covered in tattoos, what Kellin said next made me become defensive, "D-Dr. Ashby..."
