Admitting they miss each other was hard for both boys but they knew it to be true. Since they saw each other at Jeremy's party, Mackie and Ben has not stopped thinking about it. Ben was so mad at their interaction that he took drugs and hooked up with Jeremy, a mistake he doesn't plan on sharing with anyone.
"If you miss him then just call him" Serena suggests,
"I deleted his number weeks ago."
"Benji, you know where he works and where he lives, just go see him"
"No Serena I'm not stalking my ex that's crazy!"
"Boy I am at work and you called me for advice, so I'm giving you some. If you truly want to see him you'll figure it out, if you don't then let him go and move on with your life."
"All right" Ben sighs,
"Ok just think before you do anything." It is a little too late for that Ben thinks as he watches Jeremy walk towards him "I gotta go, ok? love you bye"
"Love you too" they hang up.
"So remember how we talked about really wanting to see Glass Animals?" Jeremy stops in front of Ben
"Yeah,"
"I got us tickets" he pulls them out with a grin, "they're for this Saturday and it's a long drive but I don't mind it." Jeremy waits for a reaction from Ben but is disappointed when he doesn't get one, "what do you think?"
"It's great Jeremy but we talked about this, remember? We're just friends what happened the night of your party was just-"
"A one-time thing I know" he finishes Ben's sentence, "but I'm not giving up on us Ben I told you that, before everything we were actually good together, remember?"
"I remember you cheating and that's not easy to forgive so..."
Rolling his eyes "Ben when are you gonna let that go? I don't talk to Jenny or anyone else anymore, I'm actually trying."
"Yeah maybe you shouldn't" Ben replies, "I was ok with being friends but I don't want to get back together, Jeremy," he says then walks away. Maybe Ben thought about it but after seeing Mackie and remembering what he had, Ben knows Jeremy isn't worth it.
No, Ben hasn't told his friends about what he did with Jeremy, in the back of his mind he did it to hurt Mackie even though Mackie will probably never know. Mackie does believe that Ben would get back together with Jeremy because he knows there are ties between them, even if Ben denied them. But what Mackie doesn't get is that he had ties with Ben too, the feelings they have for each other they've never had them for anyone else and spending weeks apart changed nothing because once they saw each other again, it all just came rushing back.
"Hey what are you doing tomorrow night?" Mackie's mom walks up to him as he's working
"Nothing why?"
"Family dinner, I'm making ziti and your brother said he'd come. Can you?"
"Sure"
She smiles "great."
"Should I bring anything?"
"No just yourself and maybe your roommate if you want, I'd really like to meet him," realizing he's never actually told her who he lives with Mackie takes the opportunity.
"Actually it's a girl"
"Oh," she wasn't expecting that "and she's your..."
"Friend ma just friend I was still with Ben when I met her."
"Right ok, can you bring her?"
"Not if Harley's gonna be there,"
"Why not?"
Dropping his tool Mackie wipes his hands, "she's the girl he locked me in a room with when I came out. After I took her to the hospital that day she offered me a spare room and I've been living with her since." Mackie watches his mom process the information, "it's ok if you still don't believe me but I promised her I'd never bring Harley around her, so she can't come if he is."
"No honey it's not that I don't believe you, I'm just shocked at how we let such a serious thing pass us by. I seriously need to have a talk with your brother, we can't just let this go"
"No mom I want to honestly, Harley will just deny it and we're actually cool with each other right now so I don't care. As long as you don't mention to him where I live or who I live with I'm ok letting it all go."
"Are you sure Ken?"
"Yeah, I don't want to cause any more shit,"
She nods "ok, I'll see you tomorrow night then."
Going back to work Mackie reaches to grab his wrench when he feels his phone vibrating in his pocket. Taking it out he looks at the random number then answers, "hello?"
"Hi yeah is this Mackenzie?"
"Who's asking?"
"This is Serena Ben's sister, we've met"
"How'd you get my number?"
"I'm an adult with resources it's not that hard" she answers, "but is there any way we can meet up? I really need to talk to you about my brother."
"Why? Is he ok?"
"Yeah he's fine-ish" she chuckles, "but Ben's kind of been spiraling since he saw you last weekend, and I just need to talk to you and hear your side about what happened."
"Uh" Mackie finds the call weird but decides to go along with it, "all right I'm done with work at six, I could meet you somewhere?"
"Great have you ever heard of Hanigan Park?"
Mackie knows the park oh too well, "yeah"
"There's a giant rock deep in the park, walk around until you find it, kind of hard to miss. I'll meet you there say seven?"
"Ok"
"Great bye" she hangs up and Mackie stares at his phone. Not sure why he'd agree to meet Ben's sister but he wants to make sure Ben is ok, so he decides to go and listen to whatever she has to say.
Spending his Friday night in bed avoiding Jeremy's calls, Ben watches Netflix on his computer with a bowl of popcorn.
"The Office, really?" Jumping at the sound of Serena's voice Ben spills some of his popcorn.
"Serena you bitch" he groans picking up popcorn putting them back in the bowl, "what are you doing here?"
"Mom called and said it's Friday night and you're in here moping, so I'm here to help. Go get dressed"
"Why?"
"Because we're going out come on,"
"No, I'm good here."
"Get up Ben" she walks in taking his computer away, "get dressed we're going for a drive."
"To where Serena? I don't want to leave my bed"
"It's a surprise you'll love it."
Finally agreeing Ben gets dressed and leaves with his sister, "I don't need this you know" Ben says as Serena drives.
"I think you do" she replies, "since you saw Mackie last weekend you've called me 42 times to talk about it."
"20 of which you never answered, and so what I just need someone to talk to about him, my friends will just tell me to let it go he's not worth it."
"Ok well, I think you need to get it out of your system once and for all,"
"What does that mean?" Serena pulls over and Ben stares out his window at the dark street, "why are we at Hanigans?"
"We're here because you need serious complaining time on rocket, then I never want to hear about him again."
Sighing knowing he could really use the talk Ben agrees, "fine."
Opening his door he gets out, "actually I have to make a quick phone call, you go I'll meet you there." He shuts his door walking into the seemingly empty park.
"Mackie?" Ben stops when he gets to the rock to find Mackie laying there with his legs dangling off the rock.
Sighing Mackie sits up, "I should've known this was a setup, did you tell your sister to make me come here?"
"What? No! Serena drove me here and said she wanted to talk"
"Was that before or after you had her call me?"
"I didn't make her call you! She clearly set us both up," Mackie lays back down annoyed.
Pissed Ben calls his sister and she answers as she's driving, "hey boo"
"Serena what the hell?!"
"You seem upset, there was an emergency and I had to go, make Mackie give you a ride home love you byeeee."
"Serena!" She hangs up
