After school Jeremy is walking towards the parking lot when he sees someone he doesn't know with a familiar face standing leaned against a car. Jeremy stares trying to figure out how he knows the guy, but he's caught "fuck are you looking at?"
"Where do I know you from?" He walks closer still trying to figure it out
"Doubt we hang in the same circles, lady bag"
"Denver!" Jeremy figures it out "you're related to dirty Denver, aren't you?"
"You mean Mack? You know him?"
"Know him? He's dating my boyfriend" Jeremy answers
"You're a homo too? Is everyone in this fucking school gay? Y'all did this to my brother"
"Excuse me?"
"Never mind that I think you and I can help each other out."
"How?"
"I have a plan that'll get m my brother back, and get you your boyfriend back"
No one should ever trust a word that comes out of Harley's mouth, but for some reason, Jeremy is desperate to get Ben back so "all right" he agrees.
Waking up Mackie realizes he fell asleep while watching tv with Ben, looking next to him he sees the empty spot where Ben should be. "Ben?" He gets up walking down the hall to his room, when he walks in he sees Ben's back "hey what's going on?" Mackie moves closer and Ben turns reviling what he's staring at on the bed.
Stoping Mackie looks at him "anything you want to ask me?" Ben asks upset
"Where'd you get those?"
"Oh, you mean the bag of cocaine and the gun?" He points "I wanted to find out more about your roommate since you didn't want to, but now I know her oh too freaking well" he chuckles. "Oh and if that wasn't bad enough I got even more curious and decided to look through your things too, you know what I never expected to find Mackie? A FUCKING GUN!"
"Why were you going through our stuff?!" Mackie grabs them off the bed walking out of the room
"What?! That's the explanation?" Ben follows "why is your roommate a crackhead?! Actually no I get it now, the way she looks and how this place is always spotless, all crackhead behavior."
"Stop calling Maeve a crackhead," Mackie says as he puts her drugs back in her room. "it's just coke Ben"
Ben laughs hysterically "JUST COKE? Mackie, Maeve is basically a sheet of paper with dark under eye bags, I bet she never eats and yet always seems to be ready for anything. That's not just coke that's an addict! And for you to enable it tells me two things, you don't care enough about her to get her some help and you're probably doing it with her."
"No, I don't!" He walks past Ben going back to his room to hide the gun "and Maeve is grown when she wants help she'll get it."
"Oh that's perfect fucking logic then, Thank you." Ben is having a hard time learning these truths about his boyfriend and Maeve, "what about you then? I need like ten good freaking reasons as to why you own a gun!"
"I need it for protection, all right?"
"From what Mackie the fucking mob? Are there gangsters after you?" Mackie ignores him "where'd you get it?" He waits for the truth "tell me or I'm leaving"
"I got it from Harley," Mackie answers
"Yep, I've had enough" Ben walks out of the room.
"What do you mean?" Mackie follows
"I've tolerated a lot when it came to you and your sociopathic brother, my biggest thing was that I swore to myself you're nothing like him." Ben talks as he puts his shoes on "but I mean come on we're all our siblings, aren't we? I used to steal Serena's dresses when we were kids because I thought they were cute. Gay right? I know, but this? I can't deal with this. I have put my social standing, my friends, and my relationship with my family on the line for you. So if you turn out to be Harley all of that was for shit, wasn't it?" He grabs his bag and jacket
"Ben I'm sorry about all of this but I'm nothing like my brother,"
"I believed that Mackie I really did but I changed for you, do you get that? Like I literally had to become someone who didn't have a problem with the fighting and the sibling rivalry, but a gun? Nope I have to stop somewhere" he types on his phone, "I'm getting a car to take me home please don't call me until I've thought about this."
"Ben please what would I have to do to prove to you I'm not who you think I am?" Mackie asks stopping him as Ben grabs the doorknob
Turning Ben thinks of a good answer "I want complete honesty from you about every fucking thing, and I want to see actual change. I'm not saying you're not a good person Mackie but good people do bad shit too, and I don't know why it didn't freaking hit me that you could be just as bad as your brother, I mean you've been to jail so..." Ben leaves Mackie to reflect every decision he's made leading up to this, and Mackie couldn't tell Ben to not be mad because he did hide this from him.
Mackie knew if Ben knew about Maeve's drug problem it would've set him off, the drugs don't bother Mackie because he's around stuff like that a lot but Ben is a sheltered kid from the suburbs, there's a lot he isn't used to.
"I'm just saying pink and black isn't a very good color scheme,"
"Yes, it is dummy! If I get the cake pink, I can have pink and black balloons and other decorations that are also pink and-"
As Ali is talking Brooke sees Ben walking toward them, "oh thank god!" She reacts "Ben can you please tell Ali pink and black is a stupid color scheme."
"Yeah that sound fucking awful" he sits with them,
"What the hell do you guys know?" Ali frowns at the judgments
"I'm gay so I know plenty and I'm telling you pink and black are a no. What are we even talking about?"
"My birthday party next weekend,"
"Oh shit right!"
"You forgot?" Brooke turns to him
"Ben you better not have forgotten"
"No of course not" he lies. Having been dealing with so much of his own drama Ben has really fallen through the cracks with everything else in his life.
"I don't believe you but I can't yell at you right now, I have to go find a nerd in the computer lab to help me with the flyer and invitations so bye." Ali shuts her binder getting up "see you guys at lunch?" They nod and she walks away.
Sitting across from Brooke, Ben looks at her "I need to tell you something but you cannot tell Ali."
"Oh god Ben you know I'm awful at secrets, I'm gonna forget she doesn't know and talk about it in front of her. You know me it happened like three days ago"
"Yeah thanks for telling her what I'm getting her for her birthday, but this is serious so I'm trusting you."
"Fine but I warned you,"
"It's about Mackie-"
"Speak of the devil" Brooke points and Ben turns
"What?" He sees Mackie pulling into the student lot on his bike "crap get up we have to go!"
"Why?" Brooke is confused as Ben quickly stands pulling her along "what happened?"
"Let's go and I'll explain" Mackie spots Ben frantically trying to get away with Brooke as he climbs off his bike.
"A gun!" Brooke whispers trying not to yell as they're hiding behind a wall talking inside the school, "why would he have a gun, Ben?"
Shrugging "says he needs it for protection, which is fucking crazy because what kind of shit could a high school kid be in that they'd need a gun."
"Your boyfriend gets more and more complicated the more you tell us about him."
"I keep finding all these weird shit out Brooke, and I feel like I've just been scratching the surface with him."
"I can't believe he has a gun, did you touch it?" Nodding Ben causes Brooke to gasp "was it heavy? Were there bullets in it?"
"I don't know! but there's more, Maeve's a freaking crackhead!"
"What?!" Brooke reacts "what do you mean?"
"I mean she had a baggy of cocaine in her room which Mackie confirms she does."
"What the super fuck is going on?! Who are these people?"
"When I found out yesterday I had to get the hell out of there, and now I'm trying to avoid Mackie because I don't know how I'm supposed to handle all of this."
"You have to do something Ben, your boyfriend is basically a drug toting gangster"
"Shut up" Ben sighs. The bell rings "listen if he asks about me say you don't know where I am"
"Ok."
