It wasn't the first time I woke up in a place I wasn't familiar with, and for some odd reason I felt like it wasn't going to be the last. The blinding lights, the nothing but white walls and the smell of sterilization told me exactly where I was: a hospital. It was cold in here and the uncomfortable night gown made things worse. It hurt to move honestly and the heavy feeling on my chest was still there too. My head was still pounding and the bright lights just made things worse. This felt worse than a hangover, and I've never been drunk in my life.

My eyes fluttered open and I looked around, half expecting the room to be empty, but it wasn't. Standing in the doorway was Sergeant McKinnon and a doctor. I couldn't hear them because they were talking so low. I shifted just a little, looking around the room I was in. There was a pain chart right across from the bed on the other wall, right below a t.v. that was on but the sound was muted- of course it was the stupid local cable channels. There was a hospital table right beside my bed with a tray of untouched food, a little cup with two pills in them and a bottle of water. I sighed softly and glanced at the t.v. again, squinting my eyes to look at the time in the corner of the screen. Eight o'clock in the morning. It was too early and I wanted to sleep again, but that was short lived when the doctor and Sergeant McKinnon came further into the room.

"Glad to see you're awake son," The doctor said, I only stared at him, not replying. "I need you to answer some questions for me, okay?" He asked, I nodded and watched as he pressed a button on the side of the bed, making it raise up. I winced and groaned, feeling my body shift as I rose up. I was still in so much pain.

"Take these, it'll help." The doctor said and handed me the little cup with the two pills and the bottle of water. Quickly I tossed the little cup back and chugged the water like it had been ages since I drank anything, and honestly it did.

"Now, I want you to tell me your full name and your birthday," the doctor said, I sighed softly, not really wanting to do this.

"Alan Anthony Ashby, May twenty-second," I said, the doctor nodded and clicked his pen, scribbling something down on his clipboard I had barely noticed he had.

"Do you remember anything before you blacked out?" He asked me.

"Yeah, a little," I muttered. I honestly didn't want to recall it, I was still hoping that all of this was just some sort of sick dream.

"Do you think you can tell me all what you remember?" He asked me, I sighed and stared at the wall across from me.

"My dad came into the room I was in, he stormed over to me and began to hurt me," I explained shortly, I didn't want to remember it anymore, I wanted to just pretend that none of that ever happened.

The doctor nodded and began to furthermore explain my injuries. It was almost like last time, but this time I had broke my arm mainly from trying to protect myself from hits I was receiving. My ribs were bruised but the doctor said that a few days of icing down and pain medication should heal it right up, and that I wasn't allowed to do strenuous work for up to six weeks just so I didn't damage my ribs even more. He told me I had a minor concussion from being thrown around but it was nothing too big, just that I might have a headache for a few days and needed to take things easily.

Eventually though, the doctor left, telling me I would be allowed to discharge in a couple of hours. Sergeant McKinnon was sat in one of those chairs beside the bed, flipping through a magazine and humming softly.

"How did...how did my dad get out of jail?" I asked after a few minutes of silence and me staring at the boring channels on the small t.v. on the wall. Sergeant McKinnon stopped humming and closed his magazine with a sigh.

"I don't have a clue kid," he told me. "Thankfully we got there in time, just as soon as the call was out because who knows what could have happened if we hadn't arrived when we did."

"How'd you even know?"

"Someone called it in, reporting that there needed to be units there quickly because there was a dangerous man who was being very violent, dispatch gave off the address that was reported also, and once I heard it, I quickly went. I had figured you weren't one to just randomly get into fights...once I had arrived, alongside with others, we entered the building and heard the commotion inside the room you two were in." He explained.

"Has anyone else been here besides you?" I asked, Sergeant McKinnon nodded and smiled at me.

"Most definitely. The doctors have had to literally drag that tall brunette out of here because once visiting hours were over, he still didn't want to leave." He said and I felt my cheeks warm up quickly. "As soon as the ambulance had arrived to the hospital, your friends got out of a car and quickly followed the nurses and doctors as far as they were allowed to go," he added. I couldn't help but smile. It was nice knowing that someone actually cared about me.

Speaking of friends, all of them walked through the door, big happy smiles on their faces when they saw I was awake. Kellin was the first to push through the group and come straight over to my bed, wrapping me up in a hug that had me groaning in pain.

"Sorry, sorry," he mumbled, pulling away. "How long have you been awake?"

"For almost an hour now, I guess," I muttered, shrugging. Lynn came over, a big smile on her face.

"I'm glad you're okay," she said, pulling me into a hug but being careful. There was such nice fuzzy feelings in the pit of my stomach as every one in the room, Jack, Alex, Vic, Kellin, Jaime and Lynn all came around, hugging me and giving me little bears with "Get Well" on them. It was super cheesy but it made me feels special, although there was one person out of the entire group that I wished was here, but he wasn't and I wanted to know why.

I turned to Kellin and bit my lip. "Where's um, Austin?" I asked.

"Oh, yeah, he's still waiting outside," he said. "Someone should go get him." Jack nodded and left out of the room, Alex trailing behind him.

"He's been really insane for these few days," Vic said.

"Actually, more than insane," Lynn added. Kellin grinned and shook his head.

"He's been worrying about you, just like the rest of us, but him more so." He told me, I didn't say anything as the door swung open and in entered Austin, slowly, looking around the room at everyone in here before his eyes landed on me. I felt myself gulp, he was looking so sad and it broke my heart.

"I think now is a good time to go down to the cafeteria to get some food," Lynn said.

"But I don't wanna," Jaime whined.

"Hime, we need to go." Vic said, grabbing his arm and pulling him from the chair.

"We'll bring you two something back." Kellin said, smiling sweetly before closing the door. Sergeant McKinnon, who had still been sat in the chair, reading his newspaper beside the bed, stood up and sighed, smiling at me.

"Gotta go talk to the doc, kid, I'll be back in a bit." He told me, I nodded and watched as he left, patting Austin, who was still stood near the door, on the back as he left.

Once the door was closed, I felt like crying. Austin bit his lip as he came closer, taking a seat on the bed. He seemed almost too afraid to touch me, like I was beaten so badly that one small touch would break me even more.

"I'm really glad you're okay." He said softly.

"Then come closer." I told him, scooting myself over which was a terrible idea, but I wanted him sitting beside me, I wanted him closer than he already was.

"You're an idiot," he muttered, smiling as he sat down beside me. I simply shrugged and grabbed his hand.

"I'm okay, you know? The doctor said I have bruised ribs, a broke arm and a minor concussion." I said, Austin closed his eyes and squeezed my hand.

"That could have been something much worse, Alan." Austin said.

"But it's not, Aust. Everything okay now, it's fine." I told him, Austin sighed and pressed a kiss to the side of my head.

"I wish you weren't in this stupid place," he muttered. I grinned and turned, pressing a kiss to his lips. It felt so nice after what felt like so long.

"I'm okay," I whispered, pulling away.

He nodded and bit his lip. "Then I'll be okay too."

。。。

Oh, wow, it's been so long...well maybe not but it feels like it.
